Bamboo Font: Bamboo Monogram Fonts for Embroidery, SVG and TrueType

Ideas for Bamboo Embroidery Font

Bamboo lettering has been a favorite in monograms for decades. The letters are built from segmented cane stalks with little joints and scrolled ends, a look that suggests chinoiserie, Palm Beach verandas and island resorts. At Apex we offer bamboo fonts in three forms: embroidery fonts for your machine, SVG fonts for Cricut and Silhouette, and TrueType fonts you can type.

Bamboo Monogram Project Ideas

Napkins and coasters

Customer projects: bamboo monograms embroidered on red, green and gray napkins and coasters

Bamboo monograms look crisp on linen napkins and fringed coasters. Stitch one color on natural linen for an understated look, or white on a bold color for a summer table.

Sweatshirts and apparel

Customer project: two-color bamboo monogram in blue and green on a gray sweatshirt

The two-color styles shine on sweatshirts and quarter-zips. Use cutaway stabilizer on knits.

Linens and wedding details

Customer projects: tone-on-tone bamboo monograms on linen napkins and hemstitched placemats

A tone-on-tone bamboo monogram on hemstitched napkins is a lovely wedding or hostess gift. Our post on how to fold monogrammed napkins shows how to display them.

Pillows

Customer project: large blue bamboo monogram on a cream throw pillow

Large bamboo monograms suit throw pillows in coastal and chinoiserie rooms. Unzip the cover and hoop the front panel only.

Garden flags

Customer project: black bamboo monogram on burlap garden flags

Burlap garden flags are a favorite with our customers. Burlap is loose, so use a cutaway stabilizer and a slightly larger, bolder size.

Tips for Stitching Bamboo Fonts

  • Two-color letters: pick two shades of the same color (navy and light blue, or green and sage) for the most natural cane effect.
  • Don't shrink too far. The joints and finials need room. Use the smallest size in the set as your minimum.
  • Space the side letters evenly. In three-letter monograms, the side letters should nearly touch the center letter. Check before you stitch.
  • Stabilizer: cutaway on knits and sweatshirts, tearaway on stable linens. See our embroidery stabilizer guide.

FAQ

Is there a free bamboo font?

Free bamboo-style typefaces exist for typing, but they are not digitized for embroidery. An embroidery font has to be digitized letter by letter so it stitches cleanly. Our bamboo embroidery fonts are digitized for machine embroidery, and our TrueType versions are made for typing and cutting.

Can I use a bamboo TrueType font in Cricut Design Space?

Yes. Install the .ttf or .otf file on your computer, restart Design Space, and choose the font from the System fonts list.

What thread colors look best?

Navy, kelly green and natural tan are classic. For two-color bamboo styles, use a dark and a light shade of the same color.
